范文:
My Favorite Holiday: Spring Festival
The Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is my favorite holiday in China. It is a time when family members come together to celebrate and share joy. The festival usually falls between late January and early February, marking the end of the lunar year.
One of the most exciting aspects of the Spring Festival is the preparation for the big day. Homes are cleaned thoroughly, and red decorations, such as lanterns, couplets, and paper cuttings, are hung to bring good luck. Children are particularly excited about the arrival of the "God of Fortune," who is believed to bring blessings and happiness. On New Year's Eve, families gather to have a reunion dinner, where traditional dishes like dumplings, fish, and spring rolls are served. The dinner is always followed by the watching of a special Spring Festival Gala, a variety show featuring singing, dancing, and traditional performances.
On the first day of the New Year, people wake up early to wear new clothes and give each other red envelopes, which symbolize wealth and good fortune. Visiting relatives and friends is also an important part of the holiday. Children receive gifts and blessings from the elders, and everyone wishes each other a prosperous and healthy new year.
Another highlight of the Spring Festival is the Dragon Boat Festival, which is celebrated in the middle of the lunar year. This festival commemorates the poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the river to protest corruption. People gather to watch dragon boat races and eat sticky rice dumplings, called zongzi.
The Spring Festival is not only a time for joy and celebration but also a time to honor our traditions and culture. It brings people closer together and reminds us of the importance of family and community.
